23/12/2012: Cat's birthday present- Black Widow bracelet

Hi, and Merry Christmas in advance! It's been a very long time from school since i was able to get down to creating some jewellery =) Finally here I am in the Christmas holiday break, sharing with you this bracelet i made yesterday and as a present for my friend Cat =)

I ended up experimenting with a spider theme, in this case the black widow spider, a glossy black spider with its signature red markings on its underbelly =)

Haha Cat, are you able to find out the interesting thing about your bracelet? My pictures should give you a clue =) I'll post the rest of this story and the final photo after you've guessed correctly =)

Update: And yeah, Cat found out the interesting thing about the bracelet, so here's the other part of the post~

Why the black widow spider? Among some of Cat's favourite colours are red and black. And at one moment i was googling on the black widow spider on the net due to the Black Widow from the Avengers movie. Both have a red and black colour theme in their outward appearances.

Some of the accessories that Cat owns have a sense of mystery and elegance and I feel that Black Widow and the black widow spider give off a similar feeling as well, in the way they move. Thus I felt the black widow spider idea was fitting for my friend's present.

This bracelet has a mostly red and black crystal theme with clear crystal beads as accents. Crystal beads give off the sense of elegance i wanted to portray. Also, the shine of the crystals black widow spider and Black Widow have a glossy body and shiny black skin tight suit respectively.

Then there is bright red crystal section at the centre which symbolises the red marking that the black widow spider has underneath its abdomen and on Black Widow's belt.

About the interesting thing I wanted Cat to find out, it is that the black crystals are not exactly black. They reveal a slight tinge of deep garnet red under certain angles of light. I used this effect to represent the hidden danger that the black widow spider and Black Widow have beneath their physical appearances.

To round it off, a rhodium plated cobweb box clasp to complete the black widow theme =)

Hope you enjoy your belated present Cat! =)
